California, once rich with wild salmon, boasts a diverse landscape ranging from coastal rivers and streams to far-reaching drainages, such as the Sacramento and Klamath Rivers. While California's salmon fisheries have reached a state of crisis in recent years (closed completely in 2008 and 2009), there is good news to celebrate. A monumental decision was reached in late 2009 to take out some of the Klamath River dams responsible for destroying the majority of the Klamath's wild salmon runs. Also worth celebrating is the unique collaboration between Trout Unlimited and California's wineries to restore salmon habitat in the heart of wine country. Cheers to a brighter future for California's salmon!
